Thanks,

Hi Glyn
I think that you will find that you are in a good area and that there are several clubs who will be able to help you. You could start with the list at:-
http://www.rsgb.org/local/region3.php
I've found the Stockport RC and the N Cheshire RC to be friendly and I'm a member of the Macclesfield club (we're friendly too, come along and see). I'll bet that you will also get a positive response from other clubs but I've only commented on the ones that I've visited.

I'm just by the Airport in Wythenshawe. Macclesfield is not too far away. What days/times do you meet?
Glyn
p.s. Just looked at the rsgb site. I see there are 2 in Wilmslow which are very near!

HI Glyn
You're just down the road from me, I live in Wilmslow. The Macclesfield club meet every Monday night at 20:00, directions are on our website:

You (& anyone else reading) would be most welcome any week, ask anyone for me and I'll introduce you around.

Thanks for the invite!
I've found a club that runs all courses near mobberley. The link is http://www.g0vie.co.uk/ncradioclub/
I went over to the club on Sunday and met David the instructor who was most helpful. I can't wait to start training now!

Cath /dave wilson also do a weekend course at the beacons in frodsham or did. i will phone her and make sure its ok to give her number out if you want. In the meantime it may be a good idea to get the foundation book and read that if you have had nothing to do with radio before.

Wahoo!
Just completed my 1st nights' training toward my foundation license. Received and sent morse messages whch I enjoyed very much. Learning about volatges, resistance and amps was a bit difficult as the old grey matter is not what it was.. I'm sure I'll get there if I keep going over it in the foundation book!
Here's a link to the club http://www.g0vie.co.uk/ncradioclub/ if anyone is around Manchester Airport and interested in joining!
Regards,
Glyn

Good stuff Glyn and I am delighted you enjoyed yourself. The electronics and mathematics involved can seem very complicated at first but you will soon get the hang of it. For the Foundation you do not need to understand Ohms Law in full but you do need to be able to recognise the formula. Don't let that put you off getting your head around the law though, it is the basis of most of the stuff we do in amateur radio.
You can find Ohms law and lots of other stuff in the Learning Curves section.
